Three words that could save your LIFE!!
IMAGINE IF THERE WERE 3 WORDS THAT COULD STOP
CRIMINALS FROM HARMING YOU
3 words that could make armed intruders WANT to help you and even keep you
safe.
I’d like to share a story with you because it could quite literally
save your life.
2 weeks ago, a student and very dear friend of ours found herself in a
nightmare situation.
She had just spent the night with her husband having dinner at the home of
friends - when 4 men appeared out of nowhere and pressed guns to their
heads.
They herded them into the lounge and demanded money, jewellery, guns,
everything. My friends’ whole body began to shake quite violently, and
then, quite unexpectedly - something profound happened.
Instead of seeing these men as despicable thugs, amazingly, she began to
see them as DIVINE beings, who had somehow lost their way.
A mantra bubbled up from her subconscious and she started to think about,
and quietly whisper the words “I love you” - and “I forgive you”. They
weren’t just meaningless thoughts as a result of shock – they weren’t, “I
love…forgive you …whatever”, she really MEANT and FELT them completely.
She began feeling compassion, empathy and love for these armed strangers.
The effect was profound. She said it was as if these thoughts made her
invisible to them. She had valuables on her; big diamond earrings, a cell
phone, handbag and a bag of shopping.
But the 4 men cleaned the place out completely and didn’t touch ANYTHING
that belonged to her.
In fact, the only contact they had with her was when one of them gently
took her arm, told her not to worry because he wouldn’t hurt her - and
helped her to sit down. That was it!
She says it was a surreal and enlightening experience, and as she sat
there, a true story she’d once read came to her mind.
The story was about a woman who was being raped in a park, in New York. At
some point during her terrifying ordeal, she looked at her rapist and
said, “I love you”.
Again, she didn’t just SAY it – she MEANT it, because in that
moment she somehow saw beyond her attackers actions – and recognised a
divine being in there somewhere.
The rapist paused, and looked at her for a while before saying “No-one has
ever said that to me before”.
She then gently put her hand on his face and said again, “I love you”.
He stopped attacking her, helped her up and said, “This is a dangerous
place, let me help you to safety”. Which he did.
My friend had slipped into the same “space” as this woman had in New York.
They both managed to look beyond the ugly face of humanity when it
seriously loses its way.
These are profound experiences, which prove that when we TRULY connect on
a very deep level – we lose the urge to harm each other.
Recounting them in no way demeans or undermines the reaction many of us
have had, or would have in these situations, because unless you’re there –
you cannot imagine the mind numbing terror that must grip you. What they
do though - is open our minds door to possibilities.
Which brings us to a lovely quote by Luciano deCrescenzo;
“We are all Angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing
one another”
And another I can’t resist because it’s so appropriate;
“Insight is better than eyesight when it comes to seeing an angel”.
I hope you were inspired by these stories and my wish is that they offer
you a tiny glimpse into the phenomenal potential we ALL have as humans
beings.
